Spiritual Serenity

Wouldn’t it be wonderful to have an inner, unshakeable spiritual serenity?

Wouldn’t you love to have peace with God?

The Bible says peace with God is the result of salvation:

Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God, through our Lord Jesus Christ.      Romans 5:1

Salvation is the gift from God of saving us from eternal death.

For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.    Romans 6:23

We are separated from God by sin. We are not perfect like God. We have all done wrong things.

For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.     Romans 3:23

How do we fix that? We can’t. Only Jesus can. He is perfect and he died for us, for our sins.

But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners.     Romans 5:8

Jesus is the person through whom we receive salvation. Jesus is the way to peace with God.

Jesus told him, I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life. No one can come to the Father, except through me.     John 14:6

Each of us must choose Jesus for ourselves. We must recognize that we are sinners, make a choice with our hearts, declare our belief, and accept the free gift of eternal life that Jesus offers us.

If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved.     Romans 10:9-10

Our sins are on Jesus, our Savior, and Christians have the Holy Spirit living in us as our Comforter and Counselor.

“He himself bore our sins” in his body on the cross, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; “by his wounds you have been healed.”      1 Peter 2:24

When you believed in Christ, he identified you as his own by giving you the Holy Spirit, whom he promised long ago. The Spirit is God’s guarantee that he will give us the inheritance he promised and that he has purchased us to be his own people. He did this so we would praise and glorify him. Ephesians 1:13b-14

Peace is available to all believers. A type of peace that is impossible to understand:

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.     Philippians 4:6-7

If you believe in Jesus Christ, trust Him as your Lord and Savior, and want to declare it with your mouth, you can pray a prayer like this one and express your new faith:

Dear Jesus, thank you for dying on the cross for me. Please forgive my sins, and come into my heart. I want you to be my Savior. Amen

Welcome to God’s family!

The result of salvation is peace with God.  We can have peace because we know we will not be condemned for our sins, we will live in heaven for eternity, and nothing can keep God’s love from us.

Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.     Romans 8:1

For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.    Romans 8:38-39

Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God, through our Lord Jesus Christ.    Romans 5:1

Peace with God means we are no longer fighting against Him. We have surrendered our former sinful life and chosen Jesus. When we have the Holy Spirit in us as our Comforter and Counselor, we have available to us the deepest, truest type of serenity.
